Welcome to Cross County Cardiology

Coronary Intervention (Stent Placement)

If your Hudson County cardiologist recommends a Coronary Angiogram, and it reveals significant coronary artery disease, one of the possible treatment options is percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), or stent placement. This is a minimally invasive procedure that involves inserting a flexible catheter into the affected artery and then inserting a stent to open the artery and restore blood flow to the heart muscle.

stent is a small metal mesh that functions similarly to the spring in a ball point pen. During the coronary intervention procedure, the stent is placed in the coronary artery, where it expands and functions similarly to scaffolding to hold the artery open to improve circulation.

Stenting is often used as an alternative to angioplasty, especially in blood vessels that have been severely weakened as a result of plaque buildup. The procedure is most often performed as an outpatient procedure, meaning that you will be receive a local anesthetic to numb the area where the catheter is inserted, and afterwards your progress will be carefully monitored by the best cardiologists in Bergen County, but in most cases you can go home the same day.

If you don't have vein disease yet but have high risk factors for it, we’ll work with you to help prevent it
